Car plunges into Duwamish; driver waits on bank for rescue

A car plunged into the Duwamish River at about 4 a.m. Monday in Tukwila, but the driver was able to get out and wait on the river bank for rescue, according to the Tukwila Police Department.

The car went off the roadway in the 4800 block of South 125th Street, which was witnessed by a person who called 911.

The 35-year-old driver was transported to Valley Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries.

Tukwila Police are continuing to investigate whether alcohol was involved, according to Tukwila Police Sgt. Eric Lund. Charges against the driver are pending the results of the investigation.

The car was removed from the river by a tow truck and impounded.
