Tomorrow night, Tuesday Aug. 5, marks the annual National Night Out celebrations around Renton and around the country.
Designed to heighten crime awareness, generate support for local anti-crime efforts, strengthen neighborhood spirit and cooperation with the police, National Night Out is celebrating its 31st year in 2014.
Residents are asked to lock their doors, turn on their outside lights and spend the evening outside with neighbors as a way to send a message to criminals that neighborhoods are fighting back.
Many cities and neighborhoods also host picnics and parties in local parks.
This year, the City’s large official event is scheduled for 4 to 7:30 p.m. at Kennydale Lions Park, 2428 Aberdeen Avenue Northeast. There will be free food, games and inflatable party hoppers for the kids.
Eight other neighborhoods have officially registered their events with the city as well. Along with the main event at Kennydale, there are several smaller events planned:
• Vantage Point Condos is hosting a barbecue from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at the Cabana in the 2600 block of Northeast 4th Street;
• Shamrock Heights is hosting an ice cream social from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the community park at the intersection of Nile Avenue and Northeast Sixth Street;
