The annual Communities in Schools of Renton field trip was a “tremendous success,” says Erin Iverson, CISR mentor program manager.
And the field trip — a picnic and party at the Highlands Neighborhood Center May 28 — was all possible because of community donations.
Everything was donated — from the hot dogs and buns, candy, chips and fruit, to the barbecue and the building itself.
Even appearances by Ronald McDonald, Blitz from the Seahawks and Seattle radio station MOViN 92.5 were free.
“Everybody had a hand in it this year. That’s what really made it special,” Iverson said.
About 200 pairs of mentors attended the picnic, nearly a 100 percent turnout, Iverson said.
In addition to dancing and hangin’ with the McDonalds’ and Seahawks stars, the pairs played games, banged together wood boats, hula hooped and created chalk art masterpieces.
“It was just a really, really good event,” Iverson said. “Everybody had a good time. The kids said it was the best ever.”
