Councilmembers Alberson and Pérez receive leadership roles

For 2025, James Alberson Jr. will serve as Renton City Council President while Ruth Pérez will serve as Pro Tempore.

On Dec. 2, the Renton City Council nominated and elected Councilmembers James Alberson Jr. and Ruth Pérez for the council’s 2025 leadership.

Alberson was nominated for council president by Councilmember Ed Prince, while Pérez was nominated by Alberson for council president pro tempore. Both Alberson and Pérez were elected by the majority of the council, with Councilmember Kim-Khánh Văn abstaining from both votes.

Alberson has lived in Renton since 1997 and holds Position No. 1. He is currently chair of the Community Services Committee, vice chair of the Planning and Development Committee, and is a member of the Utilities Committee. He was elected to the city council in 2021.

Pérez holds Position No. 6 and she is chair of the Planning and Development Committee, vice chair of the Finance Committee and a member of the Community Services Committee. She joined the city council in 2014 and was elected as council president for the 2019 term.
