The Fairwood Municipal Initiative will officially kick off its drive this evening (Monday) to incorporate a new City of Fairwood, after the King County Council earlier in the day set Nov. 3 as the date for the incorporation vote.
The “Vote Fairwood” campaign kicks off at 7 p.m. at the Fairwood Library, 17009 140th Ave. S.E. The kickoff will include speeches; about 100 people are expected to attend.
Volunteers will be asked to sign up for campaign activities for the four-month campaign.
The council’s action follows an 8-2 vote on June 17 by the Washington state Boundary Review Board for King County to support incorporation.
A group that opposes incorporation – and favors annexation to Renton – has set two open houses for August to provide information about annexation and incorporation issues.
The two open houses are 7 p.m.-8:30 p.m. Aug. 11 and Aug. 25 at the Fairwood Library, 17009 140th Ave., S.E.
The open houses are put on by Go Vote No, which opposed incorporation in 2006.
