Crews working for the Washington State Department of Transportation have begun a geotechnical drilling program to test soil conditions for the design of the new SR 520 corridor.

Crews have begun two weeks of daytime drilling from a barge on the east side of Lake Washington near the Medina shore. Residents and drivers can expect to see a barge in this area for approximately two weeks. When this drilling is complete, the barge will move to the west side of Lake Washington where crews will be working for approximately four weeks.

In November, the drilling work will move to land, beginning on the Eastside near the SR 520 and 108th Avenue Northeast interchange.

To protect travelers and workers, geotech crews will need to close lanes overnight as well as temporarily close the Points Loop Trail.
