Don Jacobson, a longtime community leader and Valley Medical Center trustee, attended an event in Bothell recently marking the 50th anniversary of the World’s Fair in Seattle.

“I was on the cover of LIFE magazine at the opening of the fair in 1962,” said Jacobson.  Although  his face is obscured, the aerial shot of the Space Needle under final construction shows a crew of plasterers, led by union leader Don Jacobson.

The event was held at Chateau Bothell Landing in Bothell.  Jacobson, who was instrumental in helping to bring Chateau Valley Center to the campus of Valley Medical Center, was a special guest.

There was a screening of  “When Seattle Invented the Future”, a documentary about the 50th Anniversary of the fair by local cinematographer John Gordon Hill. Also featured guest speaker Knute Berger, Editor-at-Large for Seattle Magazine and local political commentator on radio and in print.

“I was excited to meet Mr. Jacobson, even though, unfortunately, I wasn’t able to before finishing my book,” said Berger.
