Ed Prince appointed to Renton fire governance board

After a unanimous vote, Renton City Councilmember Ed Prince was elected to the Renton Regional Fire Authority Governance Board.

Prince was elected by the other councilmembers to a three-year term at the Dec. 9 council meeting. Prince’s term will begin in January 2025.

“I’m actually very excited about being appointed to the RFA Governance Board,” Prince said. “I’m excited to get back to representing the Renton residents’ interests on the RFA Board.”

The Renton Regional Fire Authority Governance Board is responsible for approving the annual budget for the authority. The board is comprised of three councilmembers and three Fire District 25 commissioners. Prince will serve alongside Council President James Alberson Jr. and Councilmember Ryan McIrvin.

Prince served as the inaugural chair on the board in the past.

Prince is currently serving his fourth term on the Renton City Council and recently served as council president in 2024.

Prince said he believes his experience in government and with the RFA make him a good choice for the job.

“I bring an overwhelming background on governance, with my years of experience on the council and my years of experience in Olympia. There’s some familiarity with the RFA and how we created it and the governance document of the RFA,” Prince said. “I’m really familiar with just the background and the founding of the authority and just good governance.”

Prince also currently serves as a member of the Association of Washington Cities Board of Directors, a member of the Sound Transit Board of Directors, a member of the King County Regional Homeless Authority Governing Board, and Chair of the Growth Management Policy Board.
