Ed Prince, a Renton planning commissioner and president of “The Next Curve,” an organization of young professionals, has announced he is running for the Renton City Council.
He is running for the seat now held by King Parker, who is not seeking a fourth term.
Prince is a founding director and current president of “The Next Curve,” a Renton philanthropic organization dedicated to improving the city. He served as the chair of Citizens for Renton Schools in 2008, is the current board chair of the Renton Planning Commission and is a member of the Renton Rotary Club.
“I love this city,” Prince said in a press release. “Renton simply possesses a community spirit that other cities marvel at and envy. I learned the spirit and ethic of service at my grandmother’s table, and no other community has the sense of service that Renton embodies.”
Prince indicated his primary focus is to “think outside the box to improve on the local economy.” He wants to continue to improve public safety and to work both regionally and locally to improve the quality of life even as the city does more with less.
He would continue to partner with the Renton School District and Renton Technical College “to ensure we have an education system where students of all ages are able to achieve their dreams and local businesses have deep applicant pool,” he said.
Prince works with Seattle Neighborhood Group, which partners with residents, businesses, the police department and other service providers to advocate for safe neighborhoods.
He has experience working in state government and managed a $400,000 budget for the Commission on African American Affairs. He also served as the program director for the Central Area Motivation Program in Seattle and as the director of Civic Engagement and Philanthropy for Seattle Works,
Prince and his wife Meegan live in the Cascade neighborhood with their toddler son, Alex.
