A memorial service for Edie Mae Lawyer, 77, a Renton native, a former Miss Renton and active community volunteer, is Monday, Aug. 1.
She died July 17, 2011.
She participated in many activities and organizations in the city, including the Renton Farmers Market, Renton School Program for Excellence in Education, Renton Senior Center and the Renton Lions.
She was president of the Renton Mayor’s Council for Senior Citizens, president of the Leisure Estates Homeowners Association in Renton and a life member of the Order of Eastern Stars.
Lawyer sponsored and escorted the Washington Special Olympic athletics every year.
She was born April 16, 1934, in Renton, the daughter of Royal and Isabel. She graduated from Renton High School in 1952 and was voted Miss Renton in 1954 by the Renton Chamber of Commerce.
Mrs. Lawyer is survived by her husband Gene Gannon of Renton; two daughters, Theresa Ross and Suzanne Tandeski, and four grandchildren.
There will be a celebration of Lawyer’s life at 11 a.m., Monday, Aug. 1, at Greenwood Memorial Park, 350 Monroe Ave. N.E., in Renton.
