King County Fire District 20, along with mutual aid from Tukwila and Renton Fire, responded to a reported house fire Thursday afternoon in the 6900 block of South 125th Street.
The resident said the lights flicker then heard a pop and bang coming from downstairs. While investigating she found sparks coming from the electrical box and she evacuated with her children.
When firefighters arrived they found light smoke coming from the house with dark smoke in the basement. Firefighters were able to limit the spread of the fire to the basement corner.
The King County Sheriffs Office Fire Investigation Unit determined the cause of the fire to be electrical. There were no injuries, damage was estimated at $3,000 and the Seattle Red Cross is assisting the family.
