Carjacking
Renton police responded on Dec. 31 at approximately 6:27 p.m. to report of a carjacking that had just occurred in the 1000 block of Garden Avenue North. According to the department, the victim stated he arranged to meet someone through Facebook for the purchase of an item. Waiting in a parking lot, a vehicle arrived with several subjects inside. Two suspects wearing black masks and black clothing approached the victim’s vehicle and demanded all their belongings, according to the department. The victim handed over their keys, phones, wallets and cash, and the suspect vehicle fled the area. The case has been turned over to the department’s investigations team, according to the department.
Another carjacking
Renton police were dispatched on Dec. 29 just before 11 p.m. to a carjacking at gunpoint in the 780 block of Logan Avenue North. According to the department, the two victims reported they had just arrived at the location and were leaving their vehicle when a black BMW SUV with no license plates pulled up in front of them. According to the department, three suspects exited the vehicle, one armed with a black handgun. The suspects robbed the victims of personal items including cellphones, wallets and the keys to their vehicle. The department described the suspects as three minor boys all wearing black hoodies and face coverings. The department’s investigations team will continue the investigation of the incident.
Domestic violence
Renton police were dispatched on Dec. 29 at about 7:22 a.m. to the 3600 block of Talbot Road South for a report of a physical domestic violence assault. According to the department, the reporting party advised that 20 minutes prior, there was a physical fight with her boyfriend and she had been choked. Law enforcement investigating the incident developed probable cause for charges against the boyfriend. Police arrested and booked the man on felony investigation of assault in the second degree and unlawful imprisonment, according to the department.
Sexual assault
Renton police were dispatched on Jan. 2 at approximately 1:08 p.m. to the 200 block of Whitworth Avenue South. According to the department, building management at a property wanted to a report a woman sleeping in the stairwell of the property to have her trespassed. Officers contacted the woman and discovered she held a number of warrants, including one for criminal trespass. During the police contact, the woman alleged she was sexually assaulted near a Metro Transit Center by an unknown suspect during the evening hours of Jan. 1. She was unwilling to discuss the details of the incident and at the time of the report, officers lacked enough information to establish probable cause for a crime, according to the department. First responders transported the subject to Valley Medical Center to seek medical treatment. The department forwarded the case to detectives for follow-up investigation of the incident.
