A Fairwood couple was rescued from their burning home early Wednesday morning.
The fire started at about 4:40 a.m. at the single-story house in the 16000 block of 132nd Place Southeast.
Additional units were called in by the Renton Fire and Emergency Services Department after it became a rescue was necessary and the extent of the fire.
Three people where at home when the fire started, the couple in their late 50s or early 60s who were rescued and their daughter who was able to get out of the house on her own.
The first responder inside the house saw that a woman was trying to get out a bedroom window, according to Battalion Chief Tally Hall. She was assisted through the window.
Her husband was still inside the house, right below the bedroom window. He was rescued by firefighters at a time when the house was about 50 percent engulfed in flames, according to Hall.
The husband was transported to Valley Medical Center for smoke inhalation, but he returned later with his wife and daughter who had accompanied him to the hospital.
The family was working with the Red Cross for assistance and neighbors also had offered their help.
The fire was being investigated by the King County Fire Marshal’s Office, which will determine the cause and set a damage estimate.
Renton provides fire services to the Fairwood area under a contract with Fire District 40.
