A home in southeast Renton was damaged in a fire at about 7 a.m. Friday.

When crews from Renton Fire and Emergency Services arrive, about half the house in the 18000 block of 124th Avenue Southeast was in flames, according to Deputy Fire Chief Bill Flora. Flames were coming from the attic.

The homeowners and occupants, who made the 911 call, were safely outside uninjured. They are staying with a nearby family.

The fire was contained to the garage and attic, although there is significant smoke and water damage throughout the structure, according to Flora. “The attic fire was complicated by the presence of stored items, which added to the fire load,” he said in a press release.

Four engines, one ladder unit, one aid unit and two battalion chiefs responded, with mutual from Kent Regional Fire Authority. Added later were an additional medic unit, rehabilitation unit and air unit to support the fire crews. It took about 45 minutes to put out the fire.

Investigators were at the scene to determine the fire’s cause and estimate damage.
