The Board of Commissioners for Fire District 40 is hosting a public meeting Tuesday, Oct. 20, for its residents to discuss how the fire department is currently funded, current and future financial conditions, and proposed strategies related to levels of service.
The board is interested in having those they serve comment, question and help determine the right balance between service levels and the financial impacts associated with the related costs.
The meeting is 6:30 p.m.-8:30 p.m. in the cafeteria at the Northwood Middle School Cafeteria, 17997 S.E. 184th St.
Historically, Fire Protection Districts in the state have received almost all of their funding through property taxes. Fire districts are “junior” taxing districts and are allowed by law to receive property taxes at a maximum rate of $1.50 per $1,000 of the assessed valuation of real property within its boundaries.
