Local Renton firefighters collected $13,000 in their boots last Friday and Saturday for the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA).

Renton firefighters were out in force on the intersection of 140th and Petrovitsky with boots in hand for the MDA.  Despite fighting a fire earlier Friday morning at 3 a.m. these MDA volunteers hits the streets.

“It’s a good cause, a cause we are all committed to as a department,” said Keith Adams, a Renton firefighter and longtime Fill The Boot volunteer.

Proceeds raised during the street-side campaign will help support MDA services and research programs.

Firefighters have filled the boot for MDA since 1954, raising approximately $375 million.

MDA is the nonprofit health agency dedicated to curing muscular dystrophy, ALS and related diseases by funding worldwide research. For more information about Fill-the-Boot or other MDA programs, contact Britini Delaney at (206) 283-2183 or bdelaney@mdausa.org.
