Residents are reminded that discharging fireworks at any time within the City of Renton is illegal.

The use and sale of all fireworks have been prohibited inside the Renton city limits since 2005. While the discharge of “safe and sane” fireworks may be permitted in some neighboring jurisdictions such as unincorporated King County (including Skyway) Fairwood and the City of Kent, all types of fireworks are prohibited in Renton.

“Fireworks have been the cause of many fires and tragedies,” said Mark Peterson, Fire Chief/Emergency Services Administrator, in a press release. “Because of this, in 2005, Renton voters chose to ban fireworks in the city as a way to protect citizens and their property.”

The City of Renton’s police and fire departments will actively enforce the ban and work together to confiscate all type of fireworks and issue citations.

Violators will be subject to both civil and criminal citations and can be fined $100 to $500. Additionally, the sale, possession or use of explosive devices such as M-80s, M-100s and homemade or modified fireworks is a felony offense and violators will face criminal charges.
