Garbage collection to continue with delays

Waste Management will continue with regularly scheduled collections today and Tuesday, even if there are delays.

Waste Management will continue with regularly scheduled collections today and Tuesday, even if there are delays.

The delays are the result of a recent strike by the Teamsters’ Local 117 and Local 174. Service in Renton is still operating based on the formal contingency plan Waste Management provided the City of Renton last Thursday. Waste Management was to concentrate on their commercial and residential accounts in Renton on Monday.

The City of Renton continues to ask people to put out their garbage on their regularly scheduled day because Waste Management is continuing their collection even if there are delays, said Preeti Shridhar, the city’s deputy public affairs administrator.

Substitute drivers are now staffing the routes while the strike is underway. The strike does not impact residents served by Allied nor does it affect the King County Transfer Stations. Customers with missed collections are being directed by the City of Renton to the Waste Management Call Center at 1-800-592-9995.
