Hazen freshman Airashay Rogers nailed a three pointer as time expired to give Hazen a 46-44 win against Bonney Lake. The win seals the Highlanders’ first trip to the 3A state tournament since 1991.
Rogers led Hazen (15-7) with 21 points in the West Central/Southwest bi-district game Friday night at Clover Park High School.
Hazen had a 13-point in the third quarter, but the Panthers reeled off a 12-0 run and then took their first lead of the game minutes later, 39-37.
On the final play of the game, Hazen trailed by one point with 9.2 seconds left. Rogers took the inbounds pass, ran the length of the court and made the shot with two defenders in her face as time expired.
Hazen plays Enumclaw today at Auburn High School at 4 p.m. to determine seeding into the state tournament.
