The Renton History Museum will be temporarily closed for renovation of its museum lobby and offices beginning today, Monday, July 25 through Saturday, Sep. 3.
This construction project will update and refresh the museum’s entrance and staff offices, thanks to grants from First Financial Northwest Foundation and 4Culture and contributions from the City of Renton and numerous individual donors.
The project will result in a more attractive, more educational, and safer introduction to the museum’s temporary and permanent exhibits, as well as a more efficient workspace for staff, according to a press release.
The Museum will re-open to the public on Tues., Sept. 6; an unveiling of the new spaces is currently being planned.
The Museum is located in the Historic Fire Station #1, built in 1942 as Renton’s first dedicated fire station. The City of Renton has leased the building to the Renton Historical Society since 1984, when it was first renovated to serve as the museum. The lobby and office renovation project represents the first major construction project since that time.
During the closure, staff will continue preparing for the museum’s fall calendar of events, 2017 exhibits, and the Renton Historical Society’s fall fundraiser, A History-Making Party, on Sept. 28.
The Renton Historical Society operates the Renton History Museum in cooperation with the City of Renton. Its mission is the preservation, documentation, and interpretation of the history and culture of greater Renton.
The museum is located at 235 Mill Ave. S.; hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.
