History Museum hosts ‘Rap: 101’ tonight

The event, part of the museum's celebration for Black History Month, explores what rap conveys about the state of society today, contemporary popular culture, diversity issues and social justice through the lyrics of popular rap music.

The Renton History Museum welcomes Bellevue College Sociology Professor Eric Davis, or “Professor E,” to discuss the political, cultural and societal implications of rap in his “Rap 101: The Message Behind the Music” lecture tonight at the museum.

The event, part of the museum’s celebration for Black History Month, explores what rap conveys about the state of society today, contemporary popular culture, diversity issues and social justice through the lyrics of popular rap music.

Davis’ presentation is given courtesy of Humanities Washington.

Cultural events are free with regular museum admission, a suggested donation of $3 per adult and $1 per child and always free for members.
