The Hooters Girls were out in force and so were the drinks, including champagne, as the ribbon was cut Monday on Renton’s newest restaurant/bowling alley, Hooters of Renton.
Workers who are doing an extensive remodel of the former Cascade Lanes on Benson Hill were busy with detail work and cleanup right until dignitaries arrived at about 11:30 a.m.
To no surprise, it was loud and crowded inside. After the official business, Hooters served food to the crowd.
Before the ribbon was cut, the owner of the Hooters franchise, Ed Pilarz of Chicago, described the place as “the ultimate man-cave.”
Hooters, he said, has “the most beautiful women in the world.” Hooters also has a menu that includes chicken wings, a lounge and casino and 24 lanes of bowling
City Council member Randy Corman represented Mayor Denis Law and other council members at the ribbon-cutting. Law and other council members had a previous commitment at the same time.
“This will be a significant anchor for the shopping center,” Corman said. In recent years, the struggling Cascade Center has lost some key businesses.
The grand opening also was another chance for Hooters of Washington to raise awareness for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Also, a portion of proceeds in October will go toward the Kelly Jo Dowd Fund supporting breast-cancer research.
Hooters opens to the public at 11 a.m. Tuesday at 17034 116th Ave. S.E.
