The third annual “I Love the Cedar River” community meeting and open house is planned for Nov. 6 in Maple Valley. Citizens attending the meeting can learn more about flood-risk reduction and restoration projects and related activities on the Cedar River.

Set for 6-8:30 p.m. at the Lake Wilderness Lodge, 22500 SE 248th St., Maple Valley, the open house and meeting will include presentations, a question-and-answer session and opportunities for residents to talk with King County staff who are involved in managing the Cedar River.

Mark Isaacson, Director of the King County Water and Land Resources Division, will review the County’s short- and long-term goals for a safer and healthier Cedar River.

Of note this year will be a celebration of the completion of the Rainbow Bend Floodplain Reconnection and the Belmondo Levee Repair projects, and discussion about the anticipated changes to the river that the community can expect as a result of these two major projects.

Staff from several organizations will also be available during the open house to discuss projects and answer questions, including: Cedar River Council, City of Renton, Forterra, Friends of the Cedar River Watershed, King County Department of Natural Resource and Parks, King County Flood Control District, Lake Washington/Cedar/Sammamish Watershed (WRIA 8), Seattle Public Utilities and the U.S. Geological Survey.
