The calendar may say it’s officially spring, but the National Weather Service says winter may not quite be done with us yet.
Colder temperatures and low snow levels are expected Wednesday night and through the end of the week throughout the region.
A strong low pressure system is affecting Western Washington and is expected to move inland later tonight. Winds will decrease across the area, but a much colder air mass will move into the area, according to a special weather statement from the NWS.
The change could bring showers throughout the region with snow levels falling to 500 feet and even occasionally near sea level, meaning there could be some snow showers, especially in the early morning hours, that could produce local accumulations of up to an inch that will melt away quickly.
A Puget Sound convergence zone is expected to be active through the end of the week. Multiple convergence zones could be active through the end of the week through the urban corridor through Thursday afternoon. The convergence zone may drift south through the Seattle area and toward Tacoma later Thursday night and Friday morning.
Hilltops above a couple of hundred feet and the east Puget Sound lowlands will have the best chance of some light accumulation.
In addition, temperatures will be unseasonably cold. Low temperatures will in the 30s Thursday morning, getting even colder Friday and Saturday mornings.
