Metropolitan King County Councilmember Reagan Dunn announced today that Kindering, an organization serving District 9 residents, will receive $2,500 in the adopted update to the King County Budget.

“This is a well-deserving program that does great things for the communities it serves,” Dunn said. “It’s my honor to help provide funding so they can continue to positively impact the lives of children and their families in need.”

For more than 50 years, Kindering, a comprehensive therapy program for disabled, medically fragile, or at risk children, has been helping families with medical and educational resources for special needs children, starting with a Bellevue clientele and expanding to three locations, including the recently opened Renton campus.

As of 2012, more than 3,500 families made use of their services in King County, with an extra 200 infants and children served with the addition of the Renton campus in 2017.

“We are so very grateful for the King County Council’s tremendous and ongoing support of early intervention services for our community’s most vulnerable children,” said Mimi Siegel, Chief Executive Officer of Kindering. “Eighty five percent of brain development occurs during the first three years of life, making early intervention the most powerful investment we can make in supporting our children to realize their unlimited potential. Seventy five percent of the children Kindering serves significantly narrow the gap with their typically-developing peers, and 46 percent no longer require special education services from school districts after Kindering.”
