King County has been meeting with the neighbors of its Cedar Hills Regional Landfill since the mid-1980s in order to keep them up to date with landfill activities, provide citizens with an opportunity to provide feedback and share ideas for improving operations.

The dialogue continues April 24, when the King County Department of Natural Resources and Parks’ Solid Waste Division hosts the next Cedar Hills Regional Landfill community meeting, set for 7-9 p.m., at the King County Library Service Center, 960 Newport Way NW, Issaquah.

Meeting topics include:

• Updates by King County Solid Waste Division staff on landfill operational, construction and environmental management activities; and
• Updates by Bio Energy Washington staff on its landfill gas-to-energy plant.

The Cedar Hills Regional Landfill community meetings provide an ongoing forum for area residents and Solid Waste Division staff to discuss conditions and activities at the landfill. Meetings occur twice a year, or more frequently as needed.

Solid waste generated in King County, excluding Seattle and Milton, is disposed at the Cedar Hills Regional Landfill, which is the only active landfill remaining in the county. Located on a 920-acre site in the Maple Valley area, Cedar Hills has provided for the safe and efficient disposal of the county’s solid waste since 1965.
