Lane closures coming up this weekend on I-5 in downtown Seattle

Valentine’s Day on Saturday will feature some high-impact lane closures through downtown Seattle starting today (Friday) and lasting until Monday, Feb. 16.

During the closures, crews will cut, remove and replace several concrete panels under the Convention Center between Stewart Street and I-90. Expect more traffic on I-405 and I-90, which are alternate routes.

For living south of Seattle, consider using Airport Way or use I-405 to get around Seattle.

This work is part of the I-5 Seattle to Shoreline Pavement Repair Project.

Bellevue ramp closure

• In south Bellevue this weekend be prepared for a ramp closure at Southeast Eighth Street. The off-ramp from southbound I-405 to Southeast Eighth Street will close at 8 p.m. today and re-open at 5 a.m. Monday.

The closure will provide space for a safe work zone as crews build a retaining wall and install a drainage system.

The work is part of the South Bellevue Widening Project that will widen I-405 between Southeast Eighth Street and 112th Avenue Southeast.

Summer closures

• Major lane closures on I-90 this summer spell occasional congestion and backups for drivers traveling between Bellevue and Seattle. The state is replacing the massive steel joints on the I-90 floating bridge, and construction will affect traffic in the westbound lanes and express lanes.

The state will completely close the I-90 express lanes May 4-23, shifting traffic into the mainline lanes across Lake Washington.
