Liberty High School received several nominations in the Ninth Annual 5th Avenue Awards: Honoring High School Musical Theater.
The awards ceremony took place Monday night, June 6, in Benaroya Hall. There were 2,400 high school students, teachers and parents from across Washington state at the event.
LHS received nominations in the “Outstanding Choreography, Costume Design, Program Design and Performance by a Chorus” categories for their production of “The Mystery of Edwin Drood.” For the same production the school received “Honorable Mention” in the “Outstanding Direction and Overall Musical Production.”
There were 22 different categories ranging from “Outstanding Overall Musical Performance” to “Outstanding Program Design.”
The nominees were dressed in their production costumes and everyone else in party clothes, according to a news release.
Hanford High School took home the most awards with four including “Outstanding Overall Musical Production” for its presentation of “How To Succeed in Business Without Really Trying.” Kentridge High School and Mercer Island High School each brought home two awards. There were fifteen more high schools that were recognized with the remaining awards.
The awards were sponsored by Wells Fargo and supported in part by the National Endowment for the Arts.
