Man, 18, hospitalized after shooting in Renton

Officers responded to the 11200 block of 162nd Street just after 2 a.m. July 12.

An 18-year-old man has been hospitalized in critical condition after being shot multiple times in a residential neighborhood in Renton.

According to the department, Renton officers responded to the 11200 block of 162nd Street just after 2 a.m. July 12 for report of a shooting after a caller reported hearing a gunshot and an individual shouting for help.

Upon arrival at the scene, officers located the injured 18-year-old man. First responders transported the man to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle in critical condition, having suffered gunshot wounds to the arm and torso.

According to Meeghan Black, a spokesperson for the Renton Police Department, witnesses heard gunshots and looked out a window to see three to five suspects running from the scene.

The 18-year-old man stated to police that he was meeting with an acquaintance when multiple individuals opened his vehicle’s passenger door and demanded his personal possessions.

The suspects shot the man after he attempted to run.

Detectives arrived at the scene of the shooting to conduct an investigation

“Detectives are interviewing witnesses and combing the area for possible surveillance video,” Black stated in an email. “We ask residents in the area to check their cameras for possible video [captured of the incident.]”

Investigators have possession of the 18-year-old’s vehicle and plan to obtain a search warrant to process the vehicle for potential evidence.

Investigation continues into the shooting.

“We are … hopeful the victim recovers from his injuries and look forward to talking with him when he is able to,” Black stated in her email.
