A 24-year-old man was assaulted at about 10:10 p.m. Monday in the downtown city parking garage on Burnett Avenue South, according to Renton police.

The City of Renton will soon install enhanced security cameras at the Metro Transit Center in an effort to help prosecute such crimes.

The victim told police he was assaulted after he had gotten off a bus at the Transit Center.

One of the teens, a white male in his late teens, told the victim to give him his money, according to Penny Bartley, a Police Department spokesman. The victim told the teen he didn’t have any money and got on the elevator to the fourth floor of the garage.

As the elevator was going up, he could hear the group running up the stairs, according to Bartley. When he stepped off the elevator, the group was there and the same male who had asked for his money confronted him.

The victim again told the suspect he didn’t have any money.

The suspect then took what the victim described as a threatening posture and demanded the victim’s iPod, according to Bartley. The victim then ran for the panic alarm button as the suspect grabbed his backpack.

The victim got the backpack away as the suspect was kicking at him. The victim got to the alarm and pushed it as the group ran off, Bartley said.

Police responded to the alarm, but the victim had not remained at the garage because he didn’t feel safe, according to Bartley.

He called 911 when he got home about 10:45 p.m.

The group was described as two white teen males, one black teen male and a white teenage female.

The primary suspect is described as 16 to 18 years old, 5 feet 9 to 5 feet 10 of medium build. He was wearing a baggy black jacket, baggy dark blue jeans and a white baseball cap and was carrying a black backpack or bag.

Other subjects are described as a black male, white male and white female, probably 16 to 18 years old, according to Bartley.
