Gunpoint robbery
Renton police were dispatched on Aug. 14 at approximately 2:21 a.m. to an armed robbery at the Brown Bear Car Wash in the 800 block of South Grady Way. The notes of the call stated that three suspects robbed the reporting party at gunpoint from the location, with one aiming the gun at him as a second searched through his wallet and the third sat as the driver of a getaway vehicle.
Officers arrived on the scene and contacted the reporting party, who advised two men approached him from the west side of the parking lot as he vacuumed his vehicle in front of the location. According to the department, one of the men, wearing a ski mask and holding a black handgun, aimed the gun at the victim and demanded his wallet.
After stealing $50 from the victim’s wallet, the two suspects ran westbound out of the parking lot to a vehicle located behind the gas station. The vehicle fled northbound of Smithers Avenue South. The department described the suspects as three Black men about age 20, one wearing a ski mask and holding a black handgun and the second wearing a mask. The victim described the suspect holding the gun as standing at 6 feet tall with a medium build, wearing a black sweatshirt and saggy blue jeans. He described the subject that searched his wallet as standing at 5 feet 8 inches with short black hair styled as a fade. The victim described the suspect driving the vehicle as having a heavy build and wearing a black sweatshirt.
Another officer stated he found a potential suspect vehicle and performed a traffic stop on a silver Nissan Versa occupied with three men matching the descriptions provided. Police asked the victim to identify the driver as one of the suspects. The victim stated he could not identify the driver with more than 30% certainty. The department’s investigations department will further review the case.
Gas station armed robbery
Renton police were dispatched on Aug. 21 at approximately 1:38 a.m. to a gas station located in the 1100 block of Sunset Boulevard Northeast for a reported armed robbery. En route, dispatch advised a suspect stole beer and aimed a gun at the employee prior to leaving in a silver vehicle.
Officers contacted two employees at the scene that stated multiple young adults — one woman and five men — stepped into the store with one of the men taking a T-shirt and beer without payment. The man walked out the front exit and aimed a handgun at one of the employees standing outside the front door as he walked to a silver vehicle, according to the department. The employee raised his hands.
The man left the scene westbound in the vehicle. The department described the suspect as an 18- to 20-year-old Black man standing about 5 feet 10 inches tall with a thin build , weighing around 140 to 160 pounds and wearing all black. Police conducted an unsuccessful area check for any suspects. The investigations department will handle further review of the case.
Indecent exposure
Renton police were dispatched to the Highlands Community Center in the 800 block of Edmonds Avenue Northeast after receiving a report of lewd conduct. En route, dispatch advised that a man had exposed himself and masturbated beneath a tree near the baseball fields.
Arriving at the scene, an officer witnessed a man speaking with a second officer. After identifying the suspect and asking questions, the suspect stated he was just walking around the park and was on his way home. According to the department, the suspect advised he peed next to the tree in the back of the park near the baseball field, but did not expose himself and did not masturbate.
Officers contacted the witness who stated she lives in the area and said as she walked near the playground, she saw the suspect fully exposing himself and actively masturbating. She continued to walk her laps and ended up at the back entrance of the park. She advised the suspect continued to masturbate near the tree and she thought the suspect saw her and threw a black jacket atop his genitals and continued to masturbate.
She called 911 and wanted to press charges, according to the department. The officer developed probable cause for and notified the suspect of his arrest for indecent exposure, transporting him to the SCORE Jail.
