A 26-year-old Renton man committed suicide at Highlands Elementary School Dec. 14.

He had been declared a missing person about three days before he died, said Renton Police Department commander David Leibman.

No one was at the school, and the body was removed before kids arrived for class.

“Most folks in the community didn’t know about it,” said Renton School District spokesperson Randy Matheson. “It was a police matter and had nothing to do with the school.”

The Renton Reporter doesn’t name suicide victims.

Bike robbery

A man squeezed a Fred Meyer employee’s neck, before stealing a bike he was watching over.

A woman asked the employee to watch her bike so she might use the restroom Dec. 4 at 17801 108th Ave. S.E., Renton.

The man in his 30s approached the employee, declaring it was his bike and demanding it.

The employee refused to let go of it until the man choked him.

The woman owning the bike called police, but decided to leave before they arrived, because she feared she had a warrant. Police later spoke with her on the phone, and she gave them the bike’s serial number.

Theft

A woman’s debit card was stolen and about $450 taken from the account Dec. 7.

It was stolen somewhere between the Safeway gas station and the grocery store on South Third Street.

The woman wrote in her statement, “That Renton area is so hoodish and dangerous.”

Car prowl

The window on a car parked was busted and a GPS stolen at the Renton Holiday Inn, Dec. 2.

The owner was visiting from another country.
