A man in his 20s reportedly causing a disturbance on Southwest Grady Way was hit by a Honda CRV Wednesday evening and a Renton Police officer had to jump to safety to avoid getting hit, too.

The incident happened at about 8:50 p.m. in the 1100 block of Southwest Grady Way. The lone officer approached the man, who walked onto Grady Way, according to police.

The man refused to return to the side of the street as requested by the officer. The officer approached the man, who turned toward the officer and took what police described as an offensive fighting stance.

The officer diverted several vehicles around himself and the man so they wouldn’t be hit by eastbound traffic.

However, as the officer called for backup, the Honda traveling west in the eastbound lane appeared to not see the two men, according to police. The officer jumped clear but the Honda struck the man, according to police.

The man was taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle for treatment of head injuries. His condition wasn’t immediately available.

The Honda’s driver wasn’t hurt, but officers determined she was driving under the influence of alcohol. She was arrested for investigation of DUI vehicular assault.
