The 24-year-old man shot in Kennydale Wednesday afternoon by a Renton Police officer as he tried to evade police has been identified as Alen Bolic, the Kent Police Department reported Thursday.

The Kent department is investigating the incident because it involved a Renton officer.

Renton Police went to the Bolic family home on Northeast 23rd Street in Renton at the request of the Kirkland Police Department.

Kirkland officers believed Bolic to be the suspect who assaulted a bus driver before leading police on a chase through downtown Kirkland Sept. 11.

When the police confronted Bolic after the assault, he held a gun at his side, according to a Kirkland press release.

He told the female officer to back away from him, and then he ran off, according to the release.

He was last seen running through the Heathman Hotel.

When Renton police approached Bolic in the backyard Sept. 29, he picked up a hose, sprayed it toward police and started to flee, said Kent Police Sgt. Pat Lowery.

A 41-year-old Renton officer fired three shots, striking Bolic twice and leaving him with non-life threatening injuries, said Lowery.

At the time of his capture, Bolic had in his possession a knife and firearm. Further investigation revealed the firearm was actually a black pellet gun designed to appear like a semi-automatic handgun.

The Renton officer, a seven-year veteran of the department, remains on administrative leave, a normal procedure for officers involved in critical incidents.
