Tonight is the annual National Night Out celebration and this year, the City of Renton will host its annual event from 4 to 7 p.m. at Thomas Teasdale Park, 601 S. 23rd St.

Police and fire officials will join members of the city government and administration for an evening of food, fun and games with a free barbecue, plenty of games and inflatables for the kids.

National Night Out is an annual designed to:

• Heighten crime and drug prevention awareness;

• Generate support for, and participation in, local anti-crime efforts;

• Strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships; and

• Send a message to criminals letting them know neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.

National Night Out also showcases the vital importance of police-community partnerships and citizen involvement in our fight to build a safer nation.
