Renton Police have determined that no abduction or kidnapping occurred Sunday afternoon right before a police chase to Interstate 5 that led to a wrong-way vehicle colliding head-on with another car on the freeway.
Three people in the fleeing silver 1997 Saturn were taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. Two of the occupants, including the driver, a 47-year-old Federal Way man, and a passenger, a 19-year-old Seattle man, were reported in stable condition Monday at Harborview. Another passenger, a 47-year-old woman, was released.
Police had received a report of a possible abduction at 12:43 p.m. Sunday in the 600 block of Monster Road Southwest. A witness reported two men had forced a woman into a car, which then drove away. The witness kept sight of the car until Renton Police caught up to it.
When officers attempted to stop the Saturn, the driver refused to stop. The driver led police on a two-minute pursuit into Tukwila, where he entered the northbound lanes of I-5. The officers halted the pursuit on the freeway when the driver turned the vehicle 180 degrees, now going south in the northbound lanes, according to police.
The Saturn then crashed head-on into a northbound 1997 Ford Taurus, whose driver, a 52-year-old Federal Way man, was not injured.
