The runway at Renton Municipal Airport was closed for about an hour July 3 following an accident involving a single-engine plane.

No one was injured and no fuel was spilled in the incident.

According to Airport Manager Ryan Zulauf, the pilot of a single-engine Cessna was practicing “touch-and-gos” when the plane exited the runway. A touch-and-go is a practice landing in which the pilot lands the plane, but immediately takes off again before stopping the engine.

Zulauf said the plane accidentally exited the runway and clipped a taxiway sign, which sheared a bolt off the plane.

Firefighters were called to the scene, but left soon after arrival. The runway was back open within the hour.

According to Zulauf, accidents at the Renton Airport are few and far between.

“It’s so long ago I can’t remember our last accident,” he said. “Which is a good thing.”
