The city’s eighth annual Earth Day/Arbor Day event is set for Saturday, April 27, at the May Creek Trail.
This year, volunteers will plant more than 1,000 shrubs and trees at the north end of the new park.
Renton has been recognized as a Tree City USA since 2008 and promotes the planting and care of trees which is one of the most effective ways to protect the environment through reducing soil erosion, producing oxygen and improving wildlife and fish habitats.
Join the celebration at the May Creek Trail Site where volunteers from neighborhoods, schools, businesses and service clubs will be planting native trees and shrubs to restore and beautify the urban forest.
“I encourage all citizens to join in this celebration to promote nature’s well-being for this and future generations,” said Mayor Denis Law in a press release. “The Arbor Day and Earth Day event is an opportunity to bring the community together for the good of the environment.”
Volunteers will gather at the three-acre site on Lake Washington Boulevard at 9 a.m. The city is still looking for volunteers to help with the planting.
