Overheated boiler brings Renton fire crews to Service Linen Supply twice on Friday

Renton fire crews twice responded on Friday to smoke coming from the top of Service Linen Supply at South Fourth Street and Wells Avenue downtown.

In the first incident “they didn’t have a problem,” said Renton Fire Battalion Chief John Lecoq. But when the second call came in at about 5:10 today, there was smoke billowing from the roof.

In both cases, the cause of the smoke was an overheated boiler, which was shut off until repairs can be made, said Lecoq.

Two engines, one ladder truck and an aid car responded to the report of a commercial structure fire. Because the call was to a commercial building, a second battalion chief was needed. With Lecoq the only battalion chief available from the Renton Fire Department, a battalion chief from the Tukwila Fire Department responded as mutual aid.

Service Linen Supply is a major supplier of linens and uniforms, all of which is also cleans.
