Councilmember Marcie Palmer on Monday announced her decision to withdraw from her council race this year, bringing the curtain down on her three terms on the City Council.
“In preparing for a campaign, I realized that I don’t have the enthusiasm and passion for the position I had the past 3 campaigns,” she said in an email. “I am ready to move on to new endeavors at the end of my term this year.”
Palmer’s was one of two council seats to be contested this fall, with challenger Carol Ann Witschi filing to run for the spot. Palmer’s decision essentially gives the seat to Witschi, whom Palmer called a “Strong, capable woman” that she was happy to see following her on the council.
“Thank you to the many people that have supported me these past 12 years. It has been an honor serving the community I love so much,” she said.
“Please welcome Carol Ann with the same warmth you’ve shown me!”
Candidate Charles Seil, who was running for Council Position 4, also appears to have withdrawn from the race, announcing his intentions on a campaign facebook page.
“Now that the candidates have declared their intent Jeannie and I had some long talks and have decided that it would be in our best interest for me to withdraw from the campaign,” he said. “I can then get back to what I truly love and that is doing the volunteer work for our great city of Renton.”
