Passengers injured in bus embankment accident in Renton

According to the Renton Police Department, the bus driver reportedly suffered a medical emergency.

Multiple passengers onboard a King County Metro bus suffered injuries on July 12 after the bus veered into an embankment in Renton.

South Puget Drive was closed in both directions between Benson Road and Benson Drive as of around 7 p.m. July 12 as a result of the embankment accident.

According to the Renton Police Department, the bus driver reportedly suffered a medical emergency, resulting in the crash. Eight passengers on board suffered minor injuries.

The Renton Regional Fire Authority, Puget Sound Regional Fire Authority and King County Medic One responded to the scene. First responders treated the driver and injured passengers, with all patients having been transported to nearby hospitals as of a 7:34 p.m., according to a social media post from the Renton Regional Fire Authority.

Multiple towing companies responded to the scene to remove the bus from the embankment, including Gene Meyer Towing, Pete’s Towing, and Bankers Auto Rebuild and Towing.

“As of now, the accident report has not been completed,” stated Sandra Havlik, public information officer for the Renton Police Department, in an email.
