Man arrested

in assault case

A Renton man was arrested for investigation of first-degree assault Sept. 10 after he tried to shoplift a 12-pack of Milwaukee beer, valued at $7.49, from Safeway on South Third Street, according to Renton police.

The man was stopped outside the store by two loss-prevention officers, who reported to police that the suspect pulled a two-inch, spring-loaded knife on them.

One of the security officers told police the blade wasn’t exposed, but the suspect yelled, “Do you want to get stabbed?” A second security officer tackled the man.

The suspect told officers everything was a “big mistake.” He said he didn’t have money for beer, according to the police report. Both loss-prevention officers told officers they feared for their lives.

A Seattle man was arrested Sept. 10 after he was observed trying to steal door locks from McLendon Hardware on Rainier Avenue South, according to Renton police.

The suspect had left the store with the locks, then returned inside with them in an attempt to return the locks, according to police. The suspect indicated he didn’t have a receipt because he was returning the locks for a friend.

The locks were valued at $208.

The man was arrested and booked into Renton City Jail for investigation of third-degree theft.

He admitted to stealing the locks, saying he was broke and needed money.

A 1988 brown Nissan pickup was stolen from the 11100 block of Southeast 176th Street sometime on Sept. 10, according to Renton police.
