POLICE BLOTTER: Gunfire erupts on Maple Avenue

The following information was compiled from City of Renton police reports.

Gunfire erupted in the 300 block of Maple Avenue Northwest in Renton on April 29.

A man called to report he heard six to 10 gunshots from the area north of his residence at about 8:15 p.m.

Police found three 10 mm shell casings in the roadway on the northeast side of the street and three 40 mm shell casings in the west parking lot near the 300 block of Taylor Avenue Northwest. They also found bullet holes in a residence in the 300 block of Maple Avenue Northwest.

The resident said there was no one with whom he’s quarreling at the moment.

Witnesses say a dark-colored pickup might have been involved in the shootings.

Police then discovered the incident was the result of an ongoing battle between two males.

 

Police chase

A motorcyclist suspected of stealing a bike took police on a chase through Renton on April 16.

Responding to signals from a stolen vehicle recovery device, or Lojack system, police thought they had found the thief of a motorcycle in the Renton Highlands. An officer attempted to pull the man over, but the man took off. After being pursued by several police cars, the man took off on foot somewhere around Northeast 10th Street. He was caught in a parking lot in the 900 block of Edmonds Avenue Northeast.

Police discovered that the motorcycle the man was riding was not the stolen vehicle they were looking for; however the man eluded them because he had a suspended license.

The Renton man was arrested and transported to jail for investigation of eluding a police vehicle.

 

Unwanted attention

A Renton woman received unwanted attention while shopping for groceries on April 27.

The 46-year-old woman was shopping at Albertsons at 4621 N.E. Sunset Blvd. when she noticed a man staring at her. This happened at about 4:15 p.m. As she went through the store, the man passed her on every aisle she went down. After she paid for her groceries and left the store, she noticed the man outside the doors just standing there.

He followed her to her car and asked her, “So, are you lookin’ to have a little fun?”

She told the man she wasn’t to which he replied, “You sure?”

The woman turned down the man’s advances and he walked away. She was able to get a partial license plate number from his vehicle. Police found the man’s vehicle at his address in the Highlands and photographed the vehicle for identification purposes.

 

Marijuana possession

An Everett man was arrested in Renton for outstanding warrants, driving with a suspended license and possessing marijuana on April 22.

Police stopped the 23-year-old man while he was driving west in the 1000 block of North Fourth Street just after 9 p.m. Police ran a check of the man’s license plate, which showed the suspended license and misdemeanor warrants.

While he was being arrested, he told the officer that he had “some weed” on him. Police discovered 2.29 grams of marijuana on the man.

He was booked into jail for investigation of driving with a suspended license and for possession of marijuana.

 

Smell of marijuana

A SeaTac man was arrested on a Renton school’s grounds and taken into custody on April 15.

Police were conducting a seatbelt compliance survey at about 9 a.m. when they discovered the 20-year-old who pulled into the school’s parking lot not wearing a seatbelt. When he rolled down the window, police could smell the odor of marijuana from the vehicle. The man handed over a pipe and police found a baggie of the green substance on him. A records check of the man also revealed he had a warrant for theft from of the Des Moines Police Department.

The man was cited and taken into custody for investigation of possession of marijuana, failure to wear a seatbelt and driving without a license.
