The following information was compiled from City of Renton police reports.
Gunshots were heard outside a “Sweet 16” birthday party in Renton on Nov. 20.
At around 12:50 a.m. police were called to the 500 block of Williams Avenue South where there were reports of shots fired from the Masonic Lodge.
No one at the party could describe the shooter or a suspect vehicle. A 51-year-old Renton woman said she was throwing her daughter a “Sweet 16” party and shutting it down when several people showed up uninvited. When they weren’t allowed in, she said she heard shots being fired outside in the parking lot area.
Woman hits headstone
A 32-year-old Renton woman ran over a cemetery headstone marker at Mount Olivet Cemetery, possibly while under the influence of alcohol.
Police found the woman sitting on a large rock at about 9:35 p.m. Nov. 19. A cemetery employee saw the woman drive off, then heard a crash. The vehicle was found resting on top of a headstone.
Police noticed she smelled of intoxicants and her speech was slurred. Her jogging suit was wet in several areas. She told police, “I was driving the car. I messed up.”
She gave minimal answers to police questions and when asked to submit to a sobriety test, she said, “Like why? What did I do? Am I in trouble?”
Police discovered she was driving with a revoked license for refusing a breath test.
She was arrested for investigation of driving under the influence, driving with a suspended license, driving without an interlock device and operating a motor vehicle without liability insurance.
Disabled child abandoned
A 16-year-old disabled child was abandoned at Valley Medical Center Nov. 26.
At about 7:25 p.m., a social worker at the hospital called to report the child had been abandoned. Apparently at some point that day, someone had left the 16-year-old at the hospital.
The child was taken into protective custody. Police followed up with Child Protective Services. Police received a call from a person at 10:30 a.m. that same day, saying someone told them they were going to abandon the child and leave the area.
Large brawl broken up
Police broke up a large brawl of 30 to 40 people in the parking lot of a motorcycle dealership on East Valley Highway Nov. 28.
The original call to police reported 10 people were fighting at the Cabana Club, 3650 East Valley Highway. When officers arrived, there was a much larger crowd yelling and sporadically fighting. Police got most of the crowd to disperse, but they didn’t immediately leave.
The two main subjects, both males, were apprehended by police and arrested for investigation of breach of peace.
Disabled man’s tires cut
Someone slashed the tires of a 63-year-old disabled man’s mini-van on Nov. 21.
The Renton man said sometime between 9 p.m. the night before and 1:30 p.m. the afternoon of Nov. 21, someone slashed the front tire of his 2004 Pontiac Montana mini-van. He uses a wheelchair to get around and the van is specially equipped to accommodate and load the wheelchair. The daughter of the man’s caregiver lives next door and also had tires slashed on her Mitsubishi Eclipse during the same timeframe.
Fires set at city parks
Arson was reported in Renton city parks Nov. 8.
Police do not know if someone or multiple people started fires in the north bank of Cedar River Trail’s lower walk area, under the Wells Avenue North bridge and Logan Avenue North bridge. They do know plastic containers and some sort of accelerant was used. The fires happened sometime between 3:30 p.m. and 7:30 a.m.
