Police Blotter: Officer assaulted

A Renton man assaulted a Renton police officer, after a misunderstanding with a girlfriend led her to call the police claiming he had attempted suicide Sept. 21.

When police officer entered the house on the 300 block of Meadow Avenue North, the boyfriend came out of the bedroom in the dark, saying he was sleeping and asking the officer to leave.

Police found a bottle of prescribed pills, if taken at once could make him ill, and questioned him. The man told police he didn’t want to die.

Then the man started shouting for the police to leave. Police then tried handcuffing him to prevent an assault.

However, the man clenched his fists and started rolling around fighting with one of the officers, punching the officer in the face.

The second policeman yelled “taser, taser” to give a warning to the other officer, and tased the man.

When the man calmed down, he admitted to drinking, smoking some marijuana and taking a few Tylenol before falling asleep.

The girlfriend had left that evening after a fight and returned to see him staggering drunk.

She thought it was a suicide attempt, though he never threatened suicide.
