The following information was compiled from City of Renton police reports.
Two panhandlers argued over turf about 5 p.m. on April 15.
A 20-year-old Renton man was panhandling at the southeast corner of South Second Street and Rainier Avenue South when he was approached by a male and female. The male argued with the Renton man because he wanted that particular corner to panhandle. The Renton man refused to leave and the male suspect grabbed the 20-year-old’s suitcase and threw about 15 feet feet into a planter strip.
This broke the suitcase. The couple fled when the Renton man still refused to leave and called police.
Police arrived and were told the same story by another man who witnessed the incident. Police have enough evidence to charge the suspect with second-degree malicious mischief.
Fight on YouTube
A YouTube video captured a fight between two juveniles on April 12.
Police were notified around 5:30 p.m. on April 15 by the older brother of the 12-year-old boy who was assaulted. The video had been posted to Facebook and showed a 13-year-old punching the 12-year-old in the face twice when the 12-year-old refused to fight.
The fight was apparently over the 13-year-old’s younger sister, who was talking to the 12-year-old boy. The 13-year-old didn’t approve and both boys got into a fight earlier in the day. The 13-year-old later retaliated for being made fun of in front of his friends.
The case was to be forwarded on to the Juvenile Prosecutor for review, with charges of fourth-degree assault possible for the 13-year-old.
Stalking ex-boyfriend
An ex-boyfriend stalked his ex-girlfriend by hiding in her car trunk on April 15 and harassing her.
The 25-year-old Kent woman called her father after her ex-boyfriend called and harassed her at work that day. Fearing for her safety, she asked her father to follow her home from work. On her way home, her ex-boyfriend climbed out of the trunk of her car into the backseat by folding down the seats.
She pulled into a gas station and her father followed in his vehicle. They both got into a brief argument with the 27-year-old ex-boyfriend, who then left the area when she called police.
Mom goes to jail
A mother and daughter got into an argument and the mother landed in jail on April 15.
The mother, a 45-year-old Renton woman, was intoxicated and became belligerent with her 19-year-old daughter. The mother is homeless and has an alcohol addiction and the daughter lets her stay at her apartment sometimes.
On this night around 11:30 p.m., she got into a scuffle with her daughter, who did not want her to roam around Renton in her present state.
Police arrested the mother for pushing and scratching her daughter in investigation of fourth-degree assault.
Attempted robbery
There was an attempted armed robbery at an ATM at 601 S. Grady Way around 2 a.m. on April 16.
After using the ATM at the above location, a 54-year-old Renton man returned to his car. As he was closing his door, a man grabbed his door and kept him from closing it. The suspect shoved a knife in front of the man and demanded all his money.
The man shoved the arm of the suspect into the ceiling of the car and the suspect pulled his arm away and ran. When the suspect ran away, he was joined by another male.
Both suspects were described as black males with ski masks on, wearing light-colored clothing. The suspect with the knife was also described as being in his late teens, early 20s and about 6 feet tall.
Scam thwarted
A Renton woman narrowly escaped a scam artist on April 13.
The woman was contacted by phone by a man claiming to be a “criminal investigations officer.” He demanded money from her claiming she missed a car payment, but the woman said she makes all her payments in full and is current on her bills. She asked to be sent paperwork and the man refused saying he needed a credit card number immediately. She gave him a card number, but called police soon after feeling the call was suspicious.
Police told her to cancel her credit card and she did before any charges were made.
On April 15, the man called again demanding money and he was angry the credit card was cancelled. The woman got off the phone with him and called police. They are investigating the calls.
