Gunfire
A Kent couple witnessed what they thought was an attempted carjacking and gunfire in the Renton Applebee’s parking lot on Oct. 23. Renton Police, however, are calling the incident an illegal discharge of a firearm.
After leaving Applebee’s, 325 S. Grady Way, around 7:34 p.m., the couple, as they were putting their child in their car, heard a man shout at a car and a gunshot. The car, a blue Monte Carlo and its driver a Federal Way man, took off from the parking lot. Two men ran away on foot in opposite directions. The car was found nearby behind the Holiday Inn at One South Grady Way.
The Federal Way man told police he was called to the car by friends of friends and told to wait there for them. He was in the back seat texting his girlfriend when he heard a gunshot and the window break. That’s when he jumped in the front seat and took off.He told officers he did not know who owned the car.
The Seattle woman who owns the Monte Carlo did not want to press charges against the Federal Way man, would give him a ride and did not want to do anything about her broken window.
Officers used a K-9 dog to track the armed suspect, but found no one. They did find a spent casing in the parking lot confirming a shooting. No suspects have been located.
Guard hit
A Kent woman who was reportedly under the influence of hallucinogenic mushrooms assaulted a Valley Medical Center security guard on Oct. 21.
The incident happened at around 9:30 p.m. The security officer said he was approached by the woman and without warning she punched him in the head. He then put her in restraints.
The security officer did not wish to press charges and was not injured.
A man who accompanied her to the hospital had to identify her to police because she was too intoxicated to respond to questions. He said she was tripping out due to consuming the mushrooms, which is why he brought her to the hospital.
Food argument
An argument over food taken from a freezer Oct. 21 ended with the arrest of a 52-year-old man for investigation of fourth-degree assault.
The incident occurred at an apartment in the 300 block of Union Avenue Southeast.
The victim, a 45-year-old woman, took some ribs and a frozen pizza from the freezer as she was moving out. The man yelled, “Don’t take my food.” She said she bought it with her food-stamp card. She told an officer she was pushed to the ground, which the man denied.
She was transported to Valley Medical Center to have her hip examined.
