The following information was compiled from City of Renton police reports.
An uncle and niece got into a violent argument April 5 in which both grabbed knives and one landed in jail.
Police were called to the residence in the 1100 block of Union Avenue Northeast at about 2:30 a.m. The uncle, a 28-year-old Federal Way man, had asked to stay at his niece’s house because he said he didn’t have anywhere else to sleep. He became intoxicated while there and began talking on her phone.
The argument began when he refused to give the phone to her. In the course of the argument, he got on top of her and punched her in the face and put his hand around her throat. She fought back and was bit on the hand. She called 911 and he got off of her.
She grabbed a knife to protect herself because in a previous incident the uncle stabbed her. He refused to leave and she swung the knife at him, cutting him slightly on the shoulder.
Police arrived and observed multiple abrasions and cuts on her face. Police also found a steak knife in the man’s pocket.
He was arrested for investigation of fourth-degree assault.
No buy with fake $100s
A man tried to buy cigarettes with a counterfeit $100 bill at the Sunset Smoke Shop, 2822 N.E. Sunset Blvd., at about 1 p.m. on April 5.
The man tried not once but twice to pay with two counterfeit bills. The man left, after the shop owner asked him to stay and explain to police where he got the bills. The suspect is described as white male, age 30 to 33, 6-foot-1 to 6-foot-3 and medium build, wearing a blue beanie hat, black jacket and blue jeans. He left northbound on foot and is believed to live in the area.
Gunshots hit home
Police were called to Trophies Bar, 247 Park Ave. N., at about 2 a.m. April 9 after a report of gunfire.
A witness reported hearing approximately five gunshots south of the area.
When officers arrived, they discovered the aftermath of a fight at the back of the building. A 42-year-old Renton man was stumbling around without a shirt, wearing what looked like a weightlifting belt. He was bleeding and had blood covering his hands, face and chest. The subjects with whom the man fought had gone back into the bar when police arrived.
The man, who was observed to be highly intoxicated, was treated by the Renton Fire Department.
Spent shell casings were found on the west side of the building and several bullet holes were observed in the residence of a house in the 200 block of Park Avenue North just west of the bar. An officer learned that the shots had gone through the bedroom wall of the residence just inches from where a man had been sleeping.
Evidence was recovered, but no suspects where located regarding the shooting. A copy of the case was to be forwarded to the Washington state Liquor Control Board, as no employee of Trophies Bar called 911 or contacted the police while the police were on location at the bar.
Call about dementia
Police responded to a possible domestic dispute on April 10 but found an elderly woman suffering from dementia instead.
Police were informed there was a dispute involving a man threatening his wife with a butcher knife on South 26th Street just after 7:30 p.m. They found the 71-year-old wife at another house in the same block. Upon arrival, police noticed the woman had trouble remembering why she called 911 and what date it was. She kept trying to explain events that occurred several years ago between her and her husband.
Her 70-year-old husband arrived and told officers his wife had been diagnosed with dementia and this was not the first episode she had experienced.
He said he was cooking dinner and she started to yell at him about things that didn’t make sense. She left to cool off and he let her leave, which he normally does. She usually stays in the area, but this time wondered to a neighbor’s house.
Catalytic converter stolen
Police investigated the theft of a vehicle’s catalytic converter at about noon on April 5.
The Seattle man reported that about 8 a.m. on April 1 he parked and secured his truck at 4300 Talbot Road S. in Renton. He returned to his truck at about 3 p.m. and noticed an odd sound when he started it up. The 47-year-old man thought that he had hit something on his way to work, so he took it to a repair shop. They told him that his catalytic converter had been intentionally cut off. This caused about $3,540 in repairs and replacement of the piece.
There is no suspect information.
