Renton police have initiated a homicide investigation into the death of a 17-year-old boy found in the 4300 block of Northeast 4th with gunshot wounds.

On May 6, Renton police dispatched to the area of Windsor Apartments at approximately 4:04 a.m. after receiving reports of an illegal discharge.

On scene, officers conducted an area check and cleared the scene. They did not locate any evidence, witnesses or victims.

At 4:19 a.m., Renton police received another report near the location regarding the sounds of gunshots.

Officers arrived and a subject directed them to the location of the victim — in a “pathway of sorts” between the Windsor Apartments and Safeway, according to the department. They found the victim lying on the ground with multiple gunshot wounds. He died at the scene.

Detectives arrived to start a homicide investigation, with investigators interviewing witnesses on the scene, according to the department’s social media.

Renton police did not have suspect information as of May 8. Detectives will continue to interview witnesses and review video from the area in an effort to determine what happened and who was involved, according to the department.

“When the actual shooting took place and what pre-empted it will hopefully come out during the investigation,” said Cyndie Morris, public information officer for the Renton Police Department, in an email.
