Police release name of Kent shooting victim

The Renton Police Department released the name of a man who was shot and killed by Kent police after a 2-hour standoff.

Mayceo O. Devangari, 40, was suspected of severely beating a woman Wednesday morning, before fleeing on foot, according to a Renton press release.

Kent officers were put on administrative leave, while Renton police are investigating the incident.

Police allege he returned to the victim’s home to retrieve his car, when he fled from police into heavy traffic.

Although police didn’t pursue, they later found Devangari after he reportedly got into a car crash.

He was seen fleeing the crash on foot and then climbing a water tower with what appeared to be a weapon, on the 23800 block of 98th Ave. S., according to the release.

Police allege he made suicidal and homicidal threats, before police were able to negotiate a surrender.

As Devangari got to the ground, police allege he reached into his pants pocket where he had concealed what appeared to be a gun, according to the release.

Police shot him immediately.

Its customary for neighboring police departments to conduct the investigation when police are involved in the shooting.
